Dear Parents and Carers

It was exciting to welcome our students back on campus on Friday.

While we have had restrictions eased in regional Victoria somewhat, we do have strict protocols in place to keep our students and staff safe.

Our starting point in helping to keep our community safe is that, if any student or staff member is unwell, they should stay at home, seek treatment and get tested.

Any student that has a household member that is unwell and awaiting a COVID test result, should also isolate until a negative test result is received.

Please note that face masks are required for all students and:

  • must be carried at all times;
  • must be worn on public transport;
  • must be worn indoors except if at home, or if an exception applies;
  • must be worn outdoors where 1.5 metres physical distancing cannot be maintained.

We ask families to please make sure that their children are sent to school with the required mask and that parents/carers have the discussion with their children about the need to wear the mask correctly when indoors.

Other steps we have taken here at school to maintain safety include:

  • Regular and ongoing cleaning cycles of high use areas.
  • Regular cleaning of desks and work areas.
  • Encouraging regular hand washing and sanitising.
  • Ensuring extra ventilation to classrooms where possible.
  • Cancelling all excursions and incursions for this next week.
  • Implementing strict limits on visitors on site.

We have been provided with guidelines to evaluate the risk for all our activities. No interschool activities may take place: this means that interschool sport activities have been postponed until next term. Likewise, any activity involving visitors on to campus (such as the evening Drama Performance) have been postponed.

A decision on the running of the Top End Tour for Year 11 students (due to depart on 18 June) is still pending. The relevant families will be notified as soon as the school has confirmation whether the Northern Territory has opened their borders to Victorian visitors.

However, we are pleased that we are still able to run whole school assemblies and year level gatherings. The VCE Unit 1 exams will continue as scheduled next week, along with the Year 10 exams. Students will receive updated information about their exams this week.

Dance practice for the senior ball (Year 11 and 12 students) will continue on campus during the school day, in preparation for the Senior Ball to be held next term.

Work experience for Year 10 students is permitted from Friday, 4 June onwards. However, the Department of Health has recommended that regional work experience placements in high-risk settings at this time (i.e. healthcare, aged care, meat works etc) be deferred until further notice unless they are contributing to VCAL/VCE/VET.

GAT Postponed

As you may be aware, the GAT (General Assessment Task) for all students sitting Unit 3/4 VCE subjects that was scheduled for this coming Wednesday has now been postponed to a later, yet to be determined, date.

We had calendared a student-free day and professional learning day for staff on this Wednesday as a result of the GAT, but we will also reschedule these items when a new date for the GAT is announced.

Therefore, Wednesday will be a normal school day for all year levels. All students are expected to attend classes that day.

We appreciate your support in the school taking a conservative approach to our various activities as we try to limit the possibility of the spread of the COVID virus should it reappear in the local community.

Your contact points with the College remain the same. You can email Year Level Coordinators, homeroom teachers and subject teachers with your queries. You can also contact the school on 52339200 should you have any further enquiries.

Kind regards

Paul Clohesy, Principal
