Learning in the Great Outdoors.

Camps and extended excursions are held for a variety of reasons, at a range of year levels, as part of the school curriculum or offered as an extra curricular activity.

Year 7 Camp

As part of the transition to secondary school, this camp is held early in first term. It is designed to enable all Year 7 students to meet, find new friends and participate in activities to assist them with the settling in process.

Year 8 Camp

This camp is held at the beginning of Term 4. As well as celebrating their year together, this time allows Year 8 students to strengthen their relationships with their peers in a challenging, outdoor environment. Activities include orienteering, raft building, shipwreck walks, Koori talks and initiative games.

Language and Cultural Immersion Trip to Malaysia

This extra-curricular trip was first offered in 2012 to students in Year 9 studying Indonesian. A group of Year 9 and 10 LOTE students travel to both Malaysia and Indonesia every two years.

Year 9 Experiential trek and camp along the Beechy Line

The inaugural trek, a 45-km walk over a 2-day period, was held in 2012 and has now become an Annual Event. This ‘experiential’ activity is designed to foster relationships with the natural world as well as to encourage senses of self-discovery, adventure and triumph.

Year 9 Discovery Learning Camp Melbourne

This camp includes the experience of travelling on public transport in the city and overnight stays in chosen locations. Part of the first day includes the Trinity Melbourne Scavenger Trot designed to familiarise students with the Melbourne CBD, the public transport system and a number of inner suburbs. The Scavenger Trot involves students in groups of twenty, under teacher supervision, exploring the areas of St Kilda, MCG, Docklands, Southbank and the CBD. One day is spent focusing on future career paths or curriculum direction where students visit particular business houses, institutions, iconic buildings or attend short lectures. Another full day is set aside to focus on social justice work in the city. Students will be organised into groups and travel with the supervising staff members to pre-arranged organisations. Many of the students will undertake two Social Justice Placements on this day and some will involve hands on activity. Other experiences on the camp include a visit to the Melbourne Hebrew Congregation Centre in South Yarra, Vic Market, IMAX Theatre and the Melbourne Ice House.

Year 10 Camp

This camp is held annually late in first term. This camp challenges all Year 10 students to step up to new challenges of rock climbing, abseiling and surfing as well as participating in team building and initiative games.

Top End Tour from Colac to Darwin

This trip is held every year for a group of Yr 10 students at the end of Term 3. The tour takes in Yalara, Kings Canyon, Alice Springs, Katherine, Kakadu and Darwin. Along the route, students bushwalk in and around some of Australia’s most stunning national parks and icons, including Uluru, KataTjuta, Kakadu and Litchfield. Special memories are made as students develop an understanding of the indigenous culture when they visit the Ali Curung community.

Ski Trip to Mt Hotham

Held every year for a group of Yr 11 students at the end of Term 3, students experience the wonder of snow as they ski and snowboard around in the fresh mountain air for five days.

Retreats Year 11 and Year 12

These senior retreats are held over two days every year and are designed to provide a time for reflection and faith development for each individual student as well as to provide many opportunities to enhance the relationship of each year level as a group.

VCAL Camp

Held annually for Year 11 and 12 VCAL students, these students are provided with opportunities to pursue practical, hands-on activities that improve their work-related skills.

Production Camp

The cast and support team of the bi-annual College Production hone their performing skills in preparation for the major College production. This either an off-site camp of full day rehearsals in the Jubilee Centre.

Tanzania Immersion Tour

At the completion of their studies in Year 12 in 2017 a small group of students and three staff travelled to Tanzania for an immersion program, which has now become an annual event. The two and a half week experience provided the students with the chance to visit Tanzania and be immersed in the culture of this fascinating country. Based in the northern city of Arusha, participants spent time at two schools: Edmund Rice Sinon Secondary, where they saw first-hand the inspiring work done by the Christian Brothers, and the School of St Jude, where they witnessed how education is transforming the lives of over 1,800 children and their families.

Tanzanian Trip Highlights:

  • Visiting both schools and experiencing the daily life of Tanzanian students.
  • Facilitating a day of sporting activities with primary school children.
  • Providing practical assistance, such as painting playground equipment or environmental projects.
  • Taking part in opportunities to engage with the Maasai people, including visiting a Maasai boma (village) and watching a Maasai choir performance.
  • Visiting sites of historical and cultural significance in Arusha.
  • Participating in a safari through some of the neighbouring national parks, including Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Manyara National Park.
