Creating a safe and respectful space

At Trinity we are inspired by the teachings of Jesus Christ and Gospel Values are at the heart of everything we do. Love, patience, kindness, acceptance and compassion are attributes that we encourage through word and deed throughout the Trinity journey.

At Trinity, we believe that building positive relationships with mutual respect has a profound effect on academic and social outcomes. Feeling safe, secure, appreciated and heard empowers students to develop skills that enable them to thrive in the classroom and beyond.

To support this College philosophy, we have clearly defined and consistent Student Behaviour expectations. Commencing from the first day of their Trinity journey, our Year 7 students engage in our Behaviours for Learning initiative, which is a progressive practice of encouraging calm spaces in our classrooms. There are five pillars to the Behaviours for Learning framework:

  1. Line up – encourages a change of pace and attitude from the breaktime to the classroom.
  2. Be prepared – ensuring that learning can commence immediately and the time spent in the classroom is positive and effective.
  3. Seating plan – provides a place where students feel safe and supported.
  4. Exit lanyards – safety is a priority and students' movement out of the classroom can be monitored.
  5. Departure – leaving the classroom for a brief break and changeover.

The benefits of implementing these simple yet effective steps ensure a learning space where learning can occur with minimal disruptions and maximum effectiveness. It has been proven that calm classroom techniques have an outcome of improved student engagement leading to improved outcomes within the curriculum and higher levels of wellbeing for our young people overall.

With the critical support of parents and carers, positive, respectful and restorative measures underpin our student behaviour management policies that promote our culture of high expectations.
RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

At Trinity College we embark on a shared journey with the families of the College to nurture, challenge and inspire our students to commit to being the best they can be in every way. With the critical support of parents and carers, positive, respectful and restorative measures underpin our student behaviour management policies that promote our culture of high expectations. Our students have rights and responsibilities, as do our families and staff and the Student Code of Conduct provides guidelines to ensure every student has the right to learn and every teacher has the right to teach.
